Note from the host:

The property is a detached late Victorian house with solar PV and other measures, including a combi boiler (mains gas), log burner and simple measures such as foil panels behind radiators. The solar pv is a recent installation. As the propertiy faces SSE and has a valley roof , it is an ideal situation for solar PV. The panels are of a modern design and produced in the UK. The gas boiler is a modern combi boiler fitted nearly three years ago. Unfortunately,   the water tank was removed at the time so I am now unable to take advantage of free hot water when the panels are generating electricity.  The log burner is a small one in the front room. It is adequate to heat the room and, as there are ash trees in the garden, I can actually get some 'free' fuel when they are pruned.

I have wooden double glazing including the sash windows to the front. The loft is insulated with sheep's wool. I have foil panels behind the radiators, a water and energy saving shower head and the most energy efficient light bulbs in the main lights and LED in others. I am also in the process of applying insulating paint applied to one of the rooms.

I always use natural oil oil based paints and varnishes in the house and avoid chemical cleaning materials. I make some of my own and use a refill facility at a local health food shop.

My garden is a bit wild. I try to provide wildlife habitat and feed birds and hedgehogs. I prioritise good pollinator plants. I grow some herbs but not vegetables at the moment as I belong to an allotment group. However, I am planning a permaculture plot.
